When the owner returned to the 1952 villa to create a new home with her husband, a question emerged: how can somewhere so familiar continue to grow without losing its soul?

The villa sits within a lush apple orchard overlooking the fjord. Its red cladding, white-framed windows and pitched roof carry the restraint of post-war modernism, yet retain a warmth of their own. The renovation preserves this character while adapting the plan to the life that will now unfold within it.

The staircase has been retained as the element that binds the house together. The kitchen has been repositioned to create a natural first encounter with the home, before the spaces flow into the dining room and the living room gathered around the fireplace. Larger windows bring daylight in from several directions and connect the rooms more closely to the orchard and fjord. Open areas for togetherness are balanced by the winter garden and library – places for quiet, reading and reflection.

Light oak reappears in the floors and bespoke joinery, while travertine and marble introduce depth and tactility. The lighting is composed to allow the materials to change over the course of the day. Traces of the past remain, but they have been joined by something new. The house has not been returned to what it once was; it has been given the possibility of becoming home again.
